Graduates
Placing its graduates in very selective secondary schools is not only our goal at CHA, it is an integral part of the CHA Mission. When a student begins the eighth grade year, the Secondary School Counselor meets with each student and his/her parents to discuss the application process for high school and to advise the family about the wide array of secondary school options that are available. Together, the student, parent(s), and counselor explore a variety of schools including boarding preparatory schools, single gender schools, religion-based institutions, public magnet and honors programs, and local independent (C.A.I.S.) school choices in order to find the best environment and education for each 8th grade student. Once a list of schools has been compiled, each student and family is individually guided through the entire process including campus visits, interviews, applications and entrance exams.
CHA not only guides the student and family but is an active advocate for the student. CHA administrators communicate regularly with representatives from numerous secondary schools in order to stay updated on the admissions process while also sharing and discussing the attributes that each CHA student brings to a prospective high school. This thoughtful, cooperative, and successful effort has resulted in CHA graduates enjoying an unusually high and consistent rate of acceptance at very selective secondary schools.
Since the school's first graduating class of eighth graders in 1997, CHA students have enrolled at numerous highly selective (C.A.I.S.) independent schools including Buckley, Campbell Hall, Harvard Westlake, Oakwood, Viewpoint, and Wildwood. In addition, graduates have attended Chaminade, Crespi, Louisville, New Community Jewish High School, Notre Dame, Oaks Christian and Sierra Canyon High School. Many students have also gained admittance to magnet or honors programs at all public high school in the surrounding area.
Following graduation, the school's Secondary School Counselor and Alumni Office remain in contact with graduates through return visits to the campus, electronic and postal mail, and the Alumni Newsletter. Additionally, the Annual Alumni Barbeque hosts CHA's current eighth graders and all recent graduates attending secondary schools. Over 75% of our graduates assemble for this event every May. Through this sustained communication with Alumni, our Secondary School Counselor gains information from each graduate regarding his/her individual experience(s) at specific high schools, which provides increased insight for each eighth grader in their selection of schools. In addition, this occasion also allows the Alumni Office to annually identify college/university selections for CHA's "high school" graduates which is at the very core of the School's Mission.
